Albert H. O-Yurvati, DO, PhD, FACOS, FICS, FAHA, is a 1986 graduate of the University of North Texas Health Science Center. He served as Chief Resident his final year after completing his internship and general surgery residency. He served as chief resident at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Jersey after completing a residency in Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery at the Deborah Heart and Lung Center. He is a fellow of both the American College of Surgeons and the International College of Surgeons.

He obtained a PhD in Education from Northcentral University. A graduate certificate from the University of North Texas Toulouse School of Education is one of the educational activities.

The Department of Medical Education at the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine is chaired by Dr. O-Yurvati, who is also a professor in the Institute of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Disease. He is an Associate Professor of Biological Sciences at the University of North Texas. He is a Visiting Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Glasgow.

He has received several awards from the UNTHSC. He received both the Benjamin L. Cohen Award for Outstanding Research Achievement and the TCOM’s Dean’s Award for Philanthropy in 2010. He received theACE Award for superior post-tenure review.

On the local, state, and national level, Dr. O-Yurvati has served on many committees. He was the Past President of the Metro Fort Worth American Heart Association. He received an award from the American Hospital Association. The Executive Director of the American Osteopathic Board of Surgery is Dr. O-Yurvati. He has been involved in numerous committees of the ACOS and has served as a discipline chair and representative to the Board of Governors. The Orel F Martin medal was given to him by the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons. He received an education award.

He is on the editorial board of multiple journals. He is a reviewer for many peered journals, including Cardiovascular Research and Experimental Biology and Medicine.

Over 80 peer-reviewed articles have been published by Dr. O-Yurvati. He is the recipient of over 2.5 million in grants. He is a primary investigator in many trials. He presented at the Therapeutic Filtration and Extracorporeal Circulation meeting in London, England, and has lectured nationally and internationally. His research interests include the inflammatory effects of cardiopulmonary bypass, cardiac metabolism, mechanical cardiac assist devices, and post-cardiac surgery adhesions.
