DVD MENUS AND LESSON BREAKDOWN:

The beginning surf GUITAR DVD is available.

The DVD begins. The format for the Surf-Rockabilly lesson series is discussed in this DVD introduction. We go over the topics that will be covered in the series, as well as the tunings used in the lessons and the styles that will be covered throughout the series.

Surf Tone. There are two lessons in this section of the DVD.

1. There is a surf tone and picking lesson. We discuss surf techniques in this lesson. You will learn how to dial in that trademark surf tone. All picking patterns are written in on-screen text and examples are played at a slow and regular pace.

2. There is a arm bending lesson. You will learn how to get some cool surf sounds using the tremolo arm in this lesson. The trademark Surf sounds are given by this use of the tremolo arm. While strumming and bending the arm, learn how to use the bar. These new techniques will help you learn a cool practice progression. There are tons of fun and killer sounds.

There is a surf guitar. There are three lessons in this section of the DVD.

1. Peter Gunn style rhythms lesson. In this lesson, you will learn how to play the Spy/Surf Peter Gunn guitar style. You will learn how to get that surf tone. You will learn about palm muting, open string licks, and down-stroke picking.

2. There is a surf rhythm lesson. You will learn some cool licks on the low end of the guitar in this lesson. Adding interest and effect is emphasized in this lesson. We add more sound to the amplifier.

3. The licks are Spy Pink Panther style. You will learn some Pink Panther-esque Spy/Surf licks in this lesson. Add interest and texture to these licks with the help of hammer-ons and slides. Adding more interest and spice to the licks is something you will learn how to do.

Rhythms I. There are three lessons in this section of the DVD.

1. A rhythm lesson on Spanish surf. In this lesson, we teach single string arpeggiation to get some new sounds. Adding a tremolo effect can give you new and different tones. In this fun lesson, learn all the patterns quickly and easily. You will learn how to experiment with your instrument.

2. There are all down-strokes in the surf rhythm lesson. You will learn some cool surf progressions using all down-strokes in this fun and easy lesson. The down-stroke only technique will get you playing the surf sounds fast and easy.

3. A rhythm lesson in the surf garage. In this lesson, we go for another new tone and use a tube amplifier to amplify our surf tones. There are some killer garage surf licks and progressions here. Add string bending licks, open string riffs, dissonant sounding notes, slides, double picking, and more to create some killer surf music and tones.

Rhythms II is faster. There are three lessons in this section of the DVD.

1. A rhythm lesson on the surf melody. In this lesson, you will learn how to turn a surf riff into a song melody. This lesson will teach you how to connect musical ideas into a cohesive progression. Then add some easy chords. Then learn how to add more interest with flutter strumming.

2. Surf rhythm lesson. We are teaching surf progressions in this lesson. The double picking technique that you learned in earlier lessons on this DVD is still being worked on by this rhythm. The surf tone is added to by a lot of cool open string riffs. Move up the guitar neck with a finger stretch technique. With the completion of this lesson and lots of practice, you will be ready to move to more intermediate surf guitar techniques and lessons.

3. Surf progression lesson. You will learn another cool surf progression using fast picking and open and bar chords. You can learn how to modify the notes in the chord with your fingers. This technique adds interest to your playing. You will learn some killer open string riffs using pull-offs, as well as string muting to get killer surf tones.
