This webinar explores the various healthcare disparities society faces today and helps learners recognize these disparities among patients in their own practice and community. A variety of initiatives are in place to address disparities faced by the poor and underserved. Strategies for addressing health disparities going forwards are addressed.

Learning Objectives Define health and health care inequalities. Explain why there are differences. The current status of discrimination. Data concerning racial and ethnic differences is evolving. Initiatives to improve health outcomes.

The Georgia Osteopathic Medical Association is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians and designates this program for a maximum of 1 AOA Category 1-A credits.

There is a Grievance Policy. The nature of the grievances should be specified in writing. All grievances should be directed to the Executive Director of GOMA, who will forward them to the Planning Committee. Within 30 days of receipt, all grievances will be responded to. If the participant doesn’t receive a satisfactory response, they can submit a complaint in writing to the Bureau of Osteopathic Education of the AOA.

Judith Volcy has over 25 years of experience in the medical field and is an Internal Medicine Specialist in Atlanta, GA. She is. She majored in Biology and Psychology at Rutgers University. She graduated from The New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1996. She did a one year rotating internship at St. Michael’s Medical Center in Newark, NJ. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine at the Morehouse School of Medicine. She was a faculty until 2004. She was voted Faculty Member of the Year in 2003 and 2004. She practiced for a while at Wellstar. During her time at Wellstar, she gave several lectures on behalf of Wellstar to the lay public. 3 nurse practitioners spent a semester with her during that time. She returned to Morehouse as a faculty member. She has been the Co-Director of Grady Yellow Pod since that time. She is the assistant program director. The HEAL clinic is run by Morehouse Medical students. Since returning to Morehouse, Quality Improvement has become an interest of hers.
