Description
Become a Social Entrepreneur
Become a social entrepreneur. Establish a social enterprise to initiate change and turn social problems into opportunities.
You will learn how to create societal impact through social entrepreneurship. There are opportunities to create social change. We will show you how to establish a venture to address a social or environment problem. A problematic issue will be studied to learn more about the source of the problem. We will help you identify opportunities, support your team, and outline your idea. During the Specialization, you will develop your idea and model, and finish with a business plan.
Applied Learning Project
A group of people who combine forces, take action and initiate change is what entrepreneurship is all about. Learners will be encouraged to form a social venture during the 3 courses. They are asked to reach out to people who share similar thoughts and concerns about a particular topic to form a team. The team will look at the source of the problem and focus on it. Results will be used to find an opportunity to address the problem. A business model will be developed over time. In order to create a business plan, learners will have to choose an organizational form. Success will be defined by measuring social impact and selecting the right strategy. Individual learners will determine whether a team sticks to the same members and project throughout all 3 courses. It is possible to change topics or teams.
There are 3 Courses in this Specialization
The need to learn about the source and root of a social problem will be the focus of this course. You will be introduced to different perspectives about Social Entrepreneurship and you will learn how to detect an opportunity and develop an idea of how to create a business for social change.
You will be asked to start a team formation process and think about a problem that you want to address with your social venture in the future. You will begin to think about a particular opportunity and a purpose for your social venture project when you work in a team to research this topic.
We will take the social business opportunity that you identified in the first course to a higher level in this course. You will use the Business Model Canvas to develop a business model. You will begin to write your business plan. You will be able to assess different organizational forms and pick the one that is appropriate for your business model. You will be able to compare different social impact investment methods by the end of the course.
Before you start with this course, you should have completed the first course, Identifying Social Entrepreneurship Opportunities.
You will learn about Social Impact Assessment in the third course of this Specialization. You will be able to develop a method to evaluate the social mission that you achieve while implementing your business plan. You will demonstrate how to market your products and services to beneficiaries and other customers by outlining an appropriate communication strategy for your social enterprise. As you move from early adopters to a broader market share, you will use an adaptable communication strategy.
You will determine growth strategies and how you can scale or replicate your business plan internationally in order to reach a larger number of beneficiaries. You will discuss organic growth, social franchising and an open source approach. You will evaluate exit strategies. When social enterprises need to finance their growth but the original funders can’t or don’t want to finance it, you will review their options. You will have to submit your final business plan for your social venture by the end of course 3. It is recommended that you have completed the first and second courses of the Social Entrepreneurship Specialization before starting this course.
