Our Verdict

7 Speed Reading has exercises and instructions to improve your reading speed. The goal of the program is to get you to read about three times faster than you already do. 7 Speed Reading has a massive library of eTexts and uses video instruction and interactive activities.

There are exercises and tests.

The first time you open the program, it will test you on your reading speed. You are free to explore what the software has to offer after this initial testing.

It is nice to be able to control your pace through the program, even though 7 Speed Reading recommends you do its activities in order.

There are a variety of exercises to choose from, including brain games and eye training. The program is recommended for fourth graders and older, but we think it is better suited to teens and adults because of its minimalist design and simple exercises. The program focuses on fatigue and glare from computer reading.

Resources and settings.

7 Speed Reading is now available through the cloud, rather than on CD-ROM. You can download the program to as many computers as you want, and your profile syncs so you can continue your practice at work or home. You can use the program to create up to five profiles and share them with your family. There are three areas of focus in the training section of the application. There are games and tests in it.

You can either manually adjust your speed or the program can populate it based on your previous scores. You can change the style and size of the fonts.

One of the best features of 7 Speed Readings is the ability to import a text from its library into the software. You can find 20,000 public domain works in the library. We didn’t find the ability to import directly into exercises anywhere else, not even in, which we found to be a really up to date and user friendly software.

There is a report and security.

The program tracks your reading speed, comprehension and areas of study. You can use it to get the most recent data from multiple computers. The graphs and charts can be used to track your progress. A report can be printed directly from the program.

Summary

It is possible to pick up where you left off on any computer with 7 Speed Reading. While many of the programs we looked at allow you to import text to read, we love that 7 Speed Reading comes with a large library of public domain items. It would be nice to be able to create more than five profiles.
