Your Instructor
I was raised in a rural hub country town with 7 children. I didn’t feel right in high school. I floated aimlessly, wondering if I should just find a rich man and have his babies, when we had career path advisory days.
It is the best way to describe the next 20 years. I found a rich man. Not rich in monetary wealth, but rich in spirit and purpose. I had four babies with him. I knew there was something more that I was missing. There was more to this. I have always been an artist, and the escape my creativity provided was definitely a vital harbour in the emotional storm.
It wouldn’t be until my 40th birthday that I would understand why I was lost in that school hall.
There wasn’t a banner with Advocate for Humanity’s Creative Identity.
There is no Banner with Whole Hearted Searcher and Tester.
Not even a banner with the word Artist
Through years of depression caused by the confusion of my purpose, it was creative expression that kept me sane.
At the end of my rope, my spirit cried out and at the same time I was convicted that I must search harder, deeper, more purposefully and with all my heart.
Creativity reassured me of my name. The name is too deep for words. The name of my spirit. I have to use paint, actions, songs, and love to speak and understand it because it is too deep for words. To know my worth.
I was employed as a lecturer several years ago. 1st and 2nd year Bachelor students had a lab in painting and drawing.
I tested my findings with crafted curriculum and unique approaches as I bounced things off my students.
I came to realize for myself and my students that our Creative Identity had been imposed upon by the common value system which promotes Performance and Product over search and expression. Much of the population has a creative confidence deficit.
People are not connected to their truth.
Competition, greed, desperation, anxiety, depression, narcissism, irresponsibility, oppression, emotional trauma and suicide are all enabled by this.
It’s a make-or-break situation for me.
Regardless of circumstance, it has given me value, purpose, joy and goodness.
