Over the past 2 years, I have grown my channel from zero to 350,000 subscribers and 32 million views. The video I made playing with cats in the park was featured on ELLE, SFGate, and Refinery29, as well as on TV across Peru.

I have worked with many companies and tourism boards around the world.

My job now is travel. I share my travels for a living. It is the best job in the world.

It wasn’t always like this. I did not start well.

Two years ago, I had an office job. I was not working 9-5. I left the office at 6pm and went to work on my consulting business right after checking into a co-working space. I was working from 5am to 10pm.

At least according to conventional standards, I thought everything was great back then. It was a great place to work, with great pay and a fulfilling position. It was a real job.

I knew that the work I was doing didn’t feel right. It felt good but not right. Can you relate?

A coworker made a comment that threw me into an emotional wreck while I was stressed out. Everything that was bothering me came tumbling out. I ran into the bathroom and cried. In the middle of the day. I wasn’t crying about the comment, I was crying because I didn’t love where I was. I killed myself because I didn’t believe in something.

I took a couple of deep breaths, wiped off my tears, and walked into my next meeting trying to keep everything together.

I decided this wasn’t the life I wanted.

It was time for a change.

TJ, this is where you quit your job to travel the world, right?

This wasn’t it.

I had to save a lot of money.

I decided to become more serious about my creative hobbies.

I began to prioritize things that helped me get out of bed in the morning.

I would run out the door on the weekends to take photos. I put together travel guides on my website. It was great to share these travel tips.

I didn’t care when there weren’t many people reading my stuff. It felt right to me that I was creating something fun, creative, but also helpful to people. I was a bit obsessed with creating.

My stress relief came from creating. My skills grew over time.

I gained the courage to say that I can make this a thing by taking small steps.
