About the Author

Robert S. Behnke is a doctor. is uniquely qualified to write a text that is user friendly. After 39 years of teaching, Dr. Behnke received the Educator of the Year award from the National Athletic Trainers’ Association. He initiated the petition to the American Medical Association that led to the national accreditation process for entry-level athletic training education programs.

He spent most of his career at Indiana State University, where he was a full professor of physical education and athletic training. He taught at the secondary level for five years. He was the head athletic trainer at Illinois State University from 1966 to 1969 and the University of Illinois from 1969 to 1973. He was an athletic trainer for both the World University Games and the U.S. men’s Olympic basketball trials. He was an athletic trainer for boxing, men’s field hockey, team handball, ice skating, roller hockey, gymnastics, judo, and cycling during sabbaticals in 1982 and 1989. He is an athletic trainer and speaker in the United States and internationally.
