ALEXANDRE VOLGUINE – THE RULER OF THE NATIVITY

AlexANDRE VOLGUINE was the leading figure in twentieth-century French astrology, though he was born in Alexandria, Russia, and only came to France in his youth. He edited Les Cahiers Astrologiques until his death.

Hebrew, Arabic, Hindu, Chinese, even pre-Columbian, all received Volguine’s attention. He promoted the use of the Hindu navamsa, the theory of Parts of the Arabs, and the interpretive subtleties through the decanates of signs.

He held that all planets in a horoscope are to be seen as being in aspect to one another when placed in the correct framework. In his book, The Ruler Of The Nativity, Volguine presented a method for determining rulership based on the strongest planets in a chart.

Volguine put special emphasis on the sequence into which planets fall when proceeding through the zodiacal wheel in his approach to the horoscope. Extra emphasis was placed on planets that appear on either side of important points, such as the Sun, Moon, Midheaven, and Ascendant.

Despite being imprisoned in a concentration camp during WWII and having various periods of illness and hospitalization, Volguine continued to edit his astrological journal.
