Interview with a man. Where are the secret hiding places of stock market profits described in your book?

Stock market profits can be found anywhere, but you don’t have to look under Love Canal or spy over a secret Russian miliary base to find them. All of the investment opportunities described in my book are related to change. Something out of the ordinary happens that creates an investment opportunity. Spinoffs, mergers, restructurings, right offerings, bankruptcies and more are some of the corporate events that can result in big profits. If the indiviual sticks to looking for investment opportunities in these secret hiding places, he or she will have an advantage over the investment pros. It becomes obvious once you learn what to look for in the daily paper.

How did you discover them?

It was not a calculated plan. I decided to look for opportunities that people weren’t paying attention to. In the case of spinoffs, shareholders of a parent company are given shares in a subsidiary they never asked for. They sell them. The system of distributing shares to investors who don’t want them creates wonderful buying opportunities. Studies show that investors can double their returns by investing in spinoffs. You can do even better if you learn to pick your spots in spinoffs.

Why haven’t other people found out about them?

It is the way the system works. Companies undergoing extraordinary change are not set up to be followed by analysts. They analyze companies of a certain size within their industry group. Anything that doesn’t fit in with this focus falls by the wayside. Most institutions are not interested in following these situations. They aren’t being sold or promoted by the investment firms and they may be too small or out of the way to bother with.
