Donald F. Sloane has been using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for 25 years. He specialized in relaxation training and cognitive behavioral treatment of a variety of stress and pain related disorders while working at the Jewish Hospital’s Behavioral Medicine Center from 1982 to 1987. Newsweek recognized his work with a patient.
Don taught several courses on cognitive and behavior therapy at the George Warren School of Social Work. During the 1990s, Don participated in a number of Cognitive Therapy training workshops under the guidance of Christine Padesky.
Don is a Chan Buddhist teacher. He started meditating under the guidance of Ho Kuang-Chung. He started practicing yoga that year. At the Cheng Man-ch’ing School in New York, Don trained in T’ai Chi. The T’ai Chi Institute of St. Louis was founded and directed by him after he trained under Al Chung-liang Huang. He studied with a Tibetan Lama from the Kagyu lineage and learned various meditation techniques. Don has been practicing meditation from the Chan (Zen) tradition for the past five years. He took vows and lay precepts from the Linji tradition. Right View magazine published his article in the spring of 2007.
