In simple language, the essay explains how different parts of the brain function during an athlete’s performance. Different parts of an athlete’s brain work at different times. It’s a lot of the time. During the competition! This will be an inner conflict. Always. The flow of muscle memory is disrupted. Most athletes don’t play up to their potential because of this.

An athlete performs from the Zone when all parts of the brain are functioning well. Those times are hard to find. Most athletes have not found a way to enter the Zone on a consistent basis.

The perfect solution was offered in my article.

PHILIP HUMBER’S PERFECT GAME

Philip Humber, a pitcher for the Chicago White Sox, threw a perfect game. There have only been 21 perfect games in Major League Baseball. It is a huge achievement.

COOL IDEA

I don’t allow advertising on my website, with the exception of my book. If I were to endorse something, I would have to believe in its value.

There was a product that came across my desk a while back. It is a simple idea, but one that caught my attention.

The back story is here.

I am a tree-hugger. I like to reuse and recycle. I would fill up an empty bottle instead of buying bottled water. A black gunk would accumulate at the bottom of my bottle after frequent use. Nothing seemed to do a good job of cleaning it out. I would throw the bottle in the recycle bin and replace it with a clean one.

The bottle needs to be entered. The same irritation was experienced by these guys. They solved the problem. The top and bottom of the bottle are removed to make it easier to clean. It is brilliant.

I can help reduce my consumption of plastic bottles by reducing our dependence on foreign oil. The Clean Bottle is cool, but that is a little grandiose. I hope they make a lot of money.

I have no financial stake in this enterprise. I wouldn’t know them from a bar of soap. I want to help them out with the product.

ONE MILLION YEARS OLD . . . TO THE EXACT DAY!

The numerals 2 through 9 have been casualties of the digital revolution. These ancient symbols, which trace their lineage to the earliest Sanskrit writings, are now considered spare parts and are majorly untrendy.

The numbers 1 and 0 do all the heavy lifting. Our music, photographs, movies, television, radio, news, phone conversations, money, correspondence, books, and even our titillation are all represented by this pair of powerful icons.

I decided to digitize more aspects of my life to take advantage of the benefits of the efficient numeral system. I started with my age. When sleek, chic bit stream is the rage, who wants an antiquated analog chronology?

Certainly not me!

On March 25, 2010, I will have achieved a significant milestone. I will be a million years old.

I updated an appropriate Beatle lyric to honor the occasion.

The person is doing the garden.

Do you want a flower?

Will you still need me?

Will you still give me food?

When will I be two to the sixth power?

When I am 10 to the 112. th There is power.

MAKING MONEY IN HARD ECONOMIC TIMES

I am a fussbudget. Before I get involved with a business, it has to meet certain criteria.

1. The product or service must shift the paradigm. I’m not interested in a “me-too” product.
2. The opportunity has to be a win-win-win-win for all concerned, and especially a major win for the customer. There can be no losers. In other words, no one gets exploited or cheated or short-changed. Everyone involved must win. The environment must not be harmed. And the product must make a meaningful contribution to society.
3. The realistic possibility of making a breathtakingly huge amount of money must exist.
4. It’s got to be FUN.

I won’t get involved if a business opportunity doesn’t meet any of the requirements. I know I would get bored with it.

I don’t mind starting from scratch. I prefer to. The vision of possibilities embedded in an opportunity must fulfill four criteria.

I am rarely attracted to a business opportunity.

One opportunity that met these criteria landed in my lap a few months ago. I didn’t know it was a rare gem. It was wrapped in something that I have always avoided. That’s something called network marketing.

I was interested when my friend Allen told me about the benefits of a juice product. I completely shut down when he mentioned network marketing. I couldn’t get out of this conversation fast enough. A friend joined us. I was able to change the subject quickly and respectfully.

I thought I had escaped.

I did not. Allen invited himself to lunch the next day. I love this guy. I like talking to him. He is always welcome in my home. I didn’t think he would mention network marketing again.

I was wrong. He was relentless in his pursuit of the topic over lunch.

I tried to tell him that I am very healthy. At 63 years old, I swim every day, eat healthy, and get plenty of rest. The ratio between good and bad cholesterol is ideal and my blood pressure is normal. My PSA is not high. Nothing hurts. I sleep well and don’t get sick. I asked rhetorically why I would need a drink with vitamins.

He continued to pursue his agenda despite my arguments.

I agreed to try it to get him to stop talking about his juice.

For the next week, my wife and I drank the suggested amount of his juice every day.

We were blown away.

My wife had a craving for chocolate and Coca Cola. She felt relief from the pain in her spine. I started sleeping better and woke up better. It was not possible for me to sleep deeper. I feel like my body is being nourished, strengthened, and even rejuvenated on a deep, cellular level because I don’t have any health challenges. I liked drinking the juice and looking forward to it.

The product is great, even spectacular, I conceded to Allen. But network marketing? We need to get real. I wouldn’t consider doing network marketing before the sun set.

I thought so.

I started looking for flaws in the opportunity because of the product’s excellence and motivation by Allen. The more I looked at the company and the juice, the more impressed I became. I couldn’t find any flaws. The company was trying to do everything right, from how they compensated those who harvest the fruits to how they formulated the juice to how they processed it. I looked into their pricing structure to see if it was broken. I could tell it was consistent with other business models I had been involved with. The management team was dedicated and experienced. The company’s philanthropic mission was impressive. This product and company appeared to be above the competition on every level.

Allen explained that the company was young and that even though it was growing at a rate of 30% per month, it had yet to experience exponential growth which he felt was imminent. The better off I would be if I got involved sooner.

In a moment of weakness, which turned out to be a stroke of good fortune, I agreed to become a distributor. The investment risk was small compared to other businesses I have started. If the worst thing happened, my wife and I would have a year’s supply of powerful nutrition in our closet and that wasn’t bad at all.

I realized that my snobby attitude toward network marketing was stupid. Network marketing is the most cost-effective way of teaching the customer about some products. The system of marketing can be enjoyable. I am enjoying the process with Allen and others. The team. Play. It is exciting. We are training each other.
