We will be breaking down over the next 4 weeks. How to make realistic figures and people. There is a step-by-step process. Each step will be explained in a video. By the end of the 4 weeks, you will know what you need to know to add people and animals to your paintings.

We will be covering this over the course of 4 weeks.

Week 1 includes reference material and sketching.

Adding people and figures to your paintings is the worst thing you can do. A lot of reference material can be found in the form of photos. I will show you how to take your own photos to start a photo library. I will show you how to use the internet to find pictures of people for practice.

We start learning how to sketch figures once we have our reference material. I will use the exercises I do at Starbucks to improve my ability to sketch the form. There are a number of exercises you can do to improve your sketching ability. This will help you improve your ability to paint people.

Week 2 of painting.

Getting the lights, dark’s and midtone values right is one of the most important aspects of painting people. In week 2 we will use Burnt Umber and White with three values and start sketching people in paint. You will be able to see the right values in the people from your reference material.

Being able to see and paint objects in the correct values is essential to creating realistic form with all of your painting.

Week 3 had blocking in it.

We are moving into using colors. I will show you how to block the base colour. Here we focus on the big shapes such as the t-shirt or a leg. Painting in values will help us a lot.

Week 4 features highlight and detailing.

We will finish up our people and figures in week 4.

They will come to life in this step. We will discuss how to make your people pop out from the background and how to integrate them into the scene so they don’t look like they were cut out and pasted on.

When you master the steps in these 4 weeks, your painting ability will take a quantum leap forward, which will open up new doors of possibility for you.

There is a bonus of 100 reference photos.

I have been collecting reference photos for several years now and have started to accumulate a large library of photos of people. In week 4 I will give you access to a selection of more than 100 photos of people in different settings so you will have lots of reference material to keep going.

If you follow our week by week instructions and complete each of the simple exercises, you will improve your painting by the end of the four week course. Each step is broken into easy to follow instructions that you follow along with. Now is the time to start learning how to paint people and figures.
