Description
Learning Objectives The appropriate patient population is identified. There are available resources and personal limitations for integrating MAT into one’s practice. Strategies and resources are used to deal with the addicted patient. Technology resources can be used in the management of opiate use disorder.
There are accreditation statements. The American Osteopathic Association gives accreditation to the Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons. MAOPS designates this program for a maximum of 1.5 AOA Category 1-A credits, which will be reported with the extent of the physician’s participation.
There is a planning disclosure. The MAOPS Education Planning Committee does not have financial relationships with any organization that produces, markets, resells, or distributes health care goods or services.
There is a Grievance Policy. The nature of the grievances should be specified in writing. All grievances should be directed to the Executive Director, who will forward them to the Education & Convention Committee. Within 30 days of receipt, all grievances will be responded to. If the participant does not receive a satisfactory response, they can submit a complaint in writing to the Council on Continuing Medical Education of the AOA.

The Chief Medical Director in the Missouri Department of Mental Health is Dr. Stanislaus. She plays a key role in the implementation of a statewide program through the State Targeted Response grant aimed at prevention and treatment of Opioid Use Disorders. The treatment guidelines for Opioid Use Disorders were developed by other experts in Missouri. She is part of the Opioid Crisis Management Team, which provides trainings to substance use treatment professionals across the state, consults with independent agencies in implementing empirically proven treatment for Opioid Use Disorders, and implements effective strategies to bridge the gap. The American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology certified Dr. Stanislaus as a board certified Psychiatrist.

Brian C. Parsells is a board certified Psychiatrist. Dr. Parsells has over 30 years of experience in community Psychiatry. Dr. Parsells has been a staff Psychiatrist for 14 years. He has been the Associate Physician Director of Substance Abuse Services for the Western Region of Missouri. Since 2010, Dr. Parsells has been providing medication assisted treatment. He has devoted most of his time to the medication assisted treatment of opiate use disorder. He practices at the Compass Health FQHC in Clinton, Missouri, which is funded by an HRSA grant to provide Psychiatry and addiction services within a primary care practice setting. He supervises two residential CSTAR treatment programs. Dr. Parsells is involved with the training of PGY-IV psychiatrists in the treatment of addictions.
