Cognitive therapy isn’t always effective for clients with personality disorders. Participants will learn how to use the concept of patients to plan treatment in a minute-by-minute fashion. Special attention will be paid to developing the therapeutic alliance, structuring the session, maintaining a problem-solving focus, facilitating homework compliance, and using advanced cognitive and behavioral techniques to help these patients change their deep-seeded beliefs at both an intellectual and emotional level.

- To describe two methods of developing, maintaining and using the therapeutic alliance in treating Axis II patients with cognitive therapy.
- To describe two advanced cognitive and behavioral techniques to modify core beliefs intellectually and emotionally.
