There is an evidence-based model for integrating cultural beliefs and wisdoms in therapy. The course will show how to integrate cultural beliefs in short-term psychotherapies. The heart is more important to non Western societies. The heart is the most important part of producing changes in psychotherapy because a person’saffect is more important than theircognition. Our culture is affected by societal pressure and the focus on individualism. This course will show how to use wisdoms from various cultures to help clients change their beliefs and values, become more aware of their inner reality, and harmonize their mind and heart.

1. List three main reasons for synthesizing cultural beliefs and values in brief psychotherapy.
2. State three strategies for reframing rigid cultural values.
3. Use a strategy to help your client harmonize the mind (cognition) and the heart (feeling) in therapy.
