Description

This is a description.

Excellent supervisors can join well with their supervisees. supervisors build strong associations with supervisors, help supervisees extol their areas of incompetence to build competencies, and supervisors learn to utilize what the supervisee brings to enhance the quality of the relationship The supervision relationship helps supervisees develop skills needed to work independently and helps supervisors generate approaches to working with clients. Good clinical supervisors help trainees become competent therapists.

There are possibilities for supervisors and supervisees to build resources for competent supervision and practice with the new Ericksonian Core Competencies. They offer ways for supervisors to assess competency across several areas, give guidance on specific tasks/attributes/competencies to assess within their supervisees, and offer some guidance in assisting supervisees in becoming excellent therapists who work in Erickson informed ways.

The new Erickson informed competencies come with their own set of concerns, such as, did we capture the essence of the work, did we leave something out, are we being reductionistic in our approach? The structure of the presentation will be affected by these concerns.

  1. Begin with a discussion related to what core competencies are/aren’t, looking at not just the Ericksonian ones, but ones from other disciplines groups.
  2. Review the Ericksonian Core competencies in detail, looking at their value in supervision.
  3. Discuss how supervision needs to transcend core competencies, even though it embraces them.

The educational objectives are listed.

  1. Demonstrate how to access the Ericksonian Core Competencies and how to use them for guidance in assessing supervisees.
  2. Articulate both the value and limitations in core competencies across disciplines and organizations.
  3. Demonstrate how they can use the Ericksonian Core Competencies to enhance the development of supervisees as clinicians.

Session may be edited to preserve confidentiality.
