Bessel A. van der Kolk is a doctor. He is a researcher in the area of post-traumatic stress. The impact of trauma and its treatment is integrated by his work.

Disociative problems, borderline personality and self-mutilation, cognitive development, memory, and the psychobiology of trauma are some of the effects trauma has on development. He has published over 150 peer reviewed scientific articles on a variety of topics.

He is the founder and president of the Trauma Research Foundation, which promotes clinical, scientific, and educational projects.
