A graduate of A. T. Still University of Health Sciences, Dr. Rawlins went on to complete an Emergency Medicine residency. He is the Senior Associate Dean of Simulation and Educational Technology and Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine. He has been an emergency physician for over 20 years and is an attending physician in the Department of Emergency Medicine at West Virginia University Hospitals. Throughout his career, Dr. Rawlins has been involved in the world of simulation, beginning with simulation as a tool for aircraft system piloting and instrumentation. He has been able to continue his education in aviation and further establish himself as a pilot, as well as apply these principals of simulation to medical education. In the medical field, he has worked closely with other departments at VCOM to enhance the 1st and 2nd year curriculum by presenting cases to medical students that allow them to bring forth their medical knowledge in a hands-on, controlled, learning environment using simulation. Other organizations have developed simulation scenarios that are unique for their training certifications. VCOM was able to become a partner with Laerdal Medical by becoming a SimDeveloper. VCOM’s simulation product has been made available to other medical schools and organizations.
