The associate professor of nutrition at the Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences is a PhD. She teaches medical students about chronic disease prevention and management. She received her PhD in nutrition from Washington State University. She was one of the founding faculty members of PNWU and worked as a clinical dietitian and certified diabetes educator. Quality of life, rural provider views of diabetes technologies, experiences of families with type 1 diabetes, goal setting among adults with type 2 diabetes, and nutrition education in medical school are some of the areas Dr. Early has published qualitative and quantitative research in. Reducing health disparity is something she is interested in. She sees patients weekly at the Union Gospel Mission Medical Clinic, where she provides diabetes care and education, and medical nutrition therapy. Dr. Early is a reviewer for peer-reviewed journals including Diabetes Care, Diabetes Spectrum, and Patient Education and Counseling, and was recently appointed as an Associate Editor for the journal BMJ Nutrition, Prevention and Health. In her free time, she enjoys a daily Iyengar yoga practice, walking, and spending time with her family and pets.
