Description
Learning Objectives Define the terms hospice and palliative care Patients who are eligible for hospice services should be recognized. Predicting the outcome of patients with a life-limiting illness can be done with models. Barriers to hospice and palliative care services need to be identified and addressed.
There are accreditation statements. The American Osteopathic Association gives accreditation to the Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons. MAOPS designates this program for a maximum of 1 AOA Category 1-A credits, which will be reported with the extent of the physician’s participation.
There is a planning disclosure. The MAOPS Education Planning Committee does not have financial relationships with any organization that produces, markets, resells, or distributes health care goods or services.
There is a Grievance Policy. The nature of the grievances should be specified in writing. All grievances should be directed to the Executive Director, who will forward them to the Education & Convention Committee. Within 30 days of receipt, all grievances will be responded to. If the participant does not receive a satisfactory response, they can submit a complaint in writing to the Council on Continuing Medical Education of the AOA.

Chair of the Department of Primary Care Medicine and Professor of Internal Medicine

The Department of Primary Care Medicine and Professor of Internal Medicine is chaired by Dr. Hubbard. After 20 years in private practice, Dr. Hubbard assumed his current academic position as a board certified hematologist/oncologist. Dr. Hubbard received his D.O. from the University of Health Sciences- College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1986 after completing his internship at Oklahoma Osteopathic Hospital. Dr. Hubbard completed his fellowship in medical oncology/hematology at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. He is certified in internal medicine by the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine. He is a certified hospice medical director. He co-authored the unknown primary malignancy section in the first two editions of the textbook Medical Oncology and is the author of several articles and editorials. The Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (MAOPS) has a past president named Dr. Hubbard. He is a member of the Audit and Finance Committee, the Legislative Committee, the Physician Development Committee, and the Physician Health Committee. MAOPS leadership asked Dr. Hubbard to chair a task force to evaluate the role of a prescription drug monitoring program for the state of Missouri. He received two awards in 2017: the MAOPS Physician of the Year and the Wilbur T. Hill, DODistinguished Service Award. The American College of Osteopathic Internists is headed by Dr. Hubbard. He is a member of the Gillum Society of Master Fellows and co-director of the annual internal medicine board review course. He received the internist of the year award. He was the chair of the Information Technology committee. He was appointed Historian for the College and published a book detailing the history of osteopathic internal medicine. The first president of the Missouri Chapter was Dr. Hubbard. The Greater Kansas City Southwest Clinical Society has a past president named Dr. Hubbard. He is a member of several organizations, including the American Osteopathic Association, the American Society of Hematology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine. He is active in his community through his work with the American Cancer Society and through his local church, where he plays in the praise band. He enjoys martial arts, photography, model railroading, and music and video production in his spare time, as well as two current band projects covering a wide variety of musical genres. Roxanne was married to Dr. Hubbard. They have two grown sons and a daughter-in-law.
