I realized that a lot of my knowledge base was not for every client. We can’t deliver the best treatment if we don’t feel comfortable with clients who are different from us.
I discovered that the skills of cultural competency can be applied to all groups when I was in Mexico. I discovered my personal biases while researching other ethnicities and cultures. Since then, I have had the opportunity to work with many different cultural groups in the U.S.
I feel like I can treat anyone regardless of their background. I am comfortable asking my client what is important to them even if I don’t know much about their culture.

There is a person named LESLIE KORN. For the treatment of trauma and emotional and chronic physical illness, a renowned clinician and educator specializing in the use of nutrition and herbal medicine is available. She is known for her humor as a speaker. Over 50,000 hours of private practice treatment have been provided by her. She works to give clients alternatives to psychotropics. She lived and worked in the jungle of Mexico for over 25 years after graduating from Harvard Medical School. She was the director of a naturopathic medicine and training clinic. She is an approved clinical supervisor and is licensed and certified in a number of therapies. She served as a consultant in ethnomedicine to the Trauma Clinic, Boston, and introduced somatic therapies for complex trauma patients in out-patient psychiatry at Harvard Medical school in 1985. She is a faculty member at the National College of Naturopathic Medicine.
She is the author of the seminal book on the body and complex trauma: Rhythms of Recovery: Trauma, Nature and the Body. She was a founder of the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork. She is the research director at the Center for World Indigenous Studies and is an approved clinical supervisor.
