Ligia M. Houben is a member of the FAAGC. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Grief Counseling. Ligia has devoted her life to helping others transform their losses and their lives. Houben is a pioneer in working with Hispanic people. Counseling Hispanics through Loss, Grief, and Bereavement is a guide for mental health professionals. The article was written by Springer in 2011. The Association for Death, Education and Counseling (ADEC), the Baptist Health System and the International Death, Grief, and Bereavement Conference at the University of Wisconsin, La Crosse are some of the places Ligia has presented about the needs of Hispanic people.
She co-trained Hispanic people to become facilitators and helped to create the first bereavement support group in her native country of Nicaragua.
Ligia M. Houben taught ethics, religion, and death and dying at several universities. The Center for Transforming Lives is in Miami, Florida. Baptist Health System Florida, Jackson Memorial Hospital and the University of Miami Hospital have all received Ligia’s message. She has appeared on CNN Espaol, NPR, NBC, and Univisin.
