I present and discuss at length five aspects of human biology in the first volume of The Principles and Practice of Integrative Medicine. Oxygen is the organizing influence of human biology. Life with one sleight of hand and another is par excellence. Human biology has an enormous network of energetic-molecular pathways. The web is connected to everything else. Human biology’s webs form a panoramic kaleidoscope. Everything changes because of a singular change within that kaleidoscope. The primary metabolic drive for all human life processes is provided by the spontaneity of oxidation in nature. It makes sure that life form doesn’t use oxygen forever. The stage for dysoxygenosis is set by persistent and progressive oxidosis. The spiritual serenity that is essential for long-term good health is one of the issues in clinical medicine that should be based on a clear understanding of those five energetic-molecular aspects of human biology. The mind-body-trio is an artifact of thinking. Preoccupation with that trio is an expression of our inability to sense, feel, and know the whole of the human condition. I have never seen anyone do a dissection where the body ends and the mind begins or where the spiritual begins. In the second volume of this textbook, I address the issues of spiritual serenity and chronic anger as well as present the philosophy of integrative medicine.
