Sally Spencer-Thomas is a Psy.D. There are many perspectives on suicide prevention and mental health promotion. A clinical psychologist. A mental health advocate. Faculty member. A researcher. A suicide loss survivor. After her brother died of suicide, she was moved to work in suicide prevention.
The National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention, the International Association for Suicide Prevention, the American Association for Suicidology, and the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline have all had leadership positions held by Dr. Spencer-Thomas.
She has received several awards for her leadership, including the American Association of Suicidology’s Survivor of the Year and the International Association for Suicide Prevention’s Farbarow Award.
Dr. Spencer-Thomas received a PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Denver, a Masters in non-profit management from Regis University, and a bachelor’s in psychology and studio art from Bowdoin College. She wrote four books about mental health and violence prevention.
