30 years have passed since the initial release of Revelations, the monumental video set that chronicled the life and work of Dai Vernon, one of the greatest magicians of all time.

L&L Publishing is celebrating the 30th anniversary of Revelations by releasing a box set that includes all 17 volumes of Revelations. Almost six hours of material that almost no one has ever seen before is included in the three bonus DVDs. Four audio CDs of Vernon lectures from the 1960s are included. The first contains a facsimile of the original Videonics Revelations catalog and the second contains the original notes made by Dr. Gene Matsuura at Dai Vernon’s farewell lecture in 1976. A full color slipcase makes this set one of the most desirable magic keepsakes ever released.

The 30th anniversary of Revelations, the series produced originally in 1982 by Hans Zahn in Newfoundland, attests to that amazing legacy and it provides another generation of magicians the chance to experience Dai Vernon and his magic.

This is more than just a repackaging of discs. With additional footage from the celebrated $1,000 Lecture Tour in the mid-1970s, private videos shot by Bill The Prez Larsen at The Magic Castle, and supporting documentation and ephemera, magic aficionados and historians now have an accurate portrayal of perhaps the most celebrated thinker and performer in magic during his

Vernon gave a lecture at the Washington Press Club in 1973. The images of Arthur and Vernon were put in for the first minute or so because the initial quality of the video was not good. Your patience will be rewarded. Vernon is 78 years old. That is correct, 78! The second wave is called Late Vernon.

The April 1977 presentations were filmed at The Magic Castle. They are a gift from the Larsen family to the magic community. It’s hard to imagine what magic would be like if it weren’t for The Magic Castle, Genii magazine, and now this. The fourth generation of the magic family contributes to the growth of magic and the preservation of magic history. Vernon would soon be 84. It is the end of the second wave.

It is time to revisit the Revelations series. The Late Period, Third Wave was recorded in 1982. Vernon gives more commentary than actual performance. Magicians Michael Ammar, Gary Ouellet and Steve Freeman are here to help, perform and demonstrate magic. We can see how things are supposed to be done. There is a lot of material. Vintage Vernon volumes are on audio CDs. A group of people gathered at the Magic Castle to hear Dai Vernon speak. There are some notes on Dai Vernon’s death. In this booklet, you will find comprehensive notes by Dr. Gene Matsuura, a lifelong student of sleight-of-hand magic, who was in attendance at Dai Vernon’s farewell lecture in California in March of 1976.

The insights into many of the routines performed on the DVDs in this set are provided by Matsuura’s keen observations of the material that Vernon presented at that lecture. Dai Vernon presented his life’s work one final time and Dr. Matsuura’s notes are a snapshot of a historic occasion.

1983 VideoNICS CATALOG FACSIMILE The Videonics catalog was issued in June of 1983 and featured the Revelations series. In addition to the historical context of the series, we have included this to give Revelations viewers valuable insights.

Michael Ammar, one of the co-hosts of the series, gives an introduction where he describes the filming of Revelations in addition to offering some interesting perspectives on how the project was developed and realized. Each of the 18 volumes of Revelations received comprehensive reviews from Sid Lorraine, who provided a description of the vast and rich material covered in the book.

Vernon Revelations Volumes 1-17 are on 8 DVDs. The life and magic of Dai Vernon was recorded in a studio in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada, in 1982. The project was undertaken by Videonics, owned and operated by Hans Zahn. The co- hosts of the project were Michael Ammar and Gary Ouellet.

The format is that of a jam session, with Vernon talking about his tricks, moves and routines. The moves, techniques, routines, tips and handlings discussed are performed by Vernon or one of the co-hosts, along with a complete explanation. Half of the subjects were new and disclosed for the first time at the time of the video shoot.
