John Perkins Guided Chaos Combat Boxing 1
Description
New material is included in the best of 2 previous Combat Boxing seminars.

The training regimen includes both conventional boxing, closed-fist and elbow strikes, kicking and anti-grappling methods as well as some of the most comprehensive applications of Dropping Energy we have ever put on video. There were 3 hours and 20 minutes on the discs.
Combat Boxing is not a replacement for anything.
You rain when you mix open-hand strikes, chops, ridge hands, punching, biting, flat fists, back fists, hammer fists, knees, feet, elbows and hard and soft energy.
Your sensitivity allows you to adapt your defense to whatever the enemy throws at you. The ability to respond to movement and energy is critical.
The DVD may be the perfect one for Boxers and MMA practitioners.
4.5 out of 5. Story in Pictures has a review of AMAZON.
Combat Boxing is a limited application of Guided Chaos (GC), but it might be the best DVD yet for helping someone with a background in Boxing, MMA or a traditional hard style martial art to understand how Guided Chaos (GC) can work for them. It is filled with material that a dedicated GC will appreciate.
Combat Boxing does not use the full range of tools available in GC, but this limitation has several benefits. For the uninitiated, it makes the art easier to understand by limiting how much you have to absorb, and it makes it much clearer how GC relates to your current understanding of fighting. You can use what you know with it. The best explanation of dropping energy yet can be found in this set, which includes demonstrations by a professional boxing coach which show how boxers hit and from that point show you how to hit even harder by adding dropping.
The experts at Guided Chaos include a combat experienced Marine Col., a street cop and forensics expert, a police captain, and a professional boxing coach.
I will only talk about a few of the topics covered in the set.
This set is a must have for anyone interested in effective self defense. It will be a solid hit when you hit it.
The drills and explanation of long step hitting are easy to understand. It’s like getting the code to fade and angles in boxing. This has made my game better. My training partners have a hard time seeing the hits coming and even when they do, they have a hard time getting out of the way. Staying out of your opponent’s way will allow you to hit more often.
There is a wonderful slowed-down exchange at the end of DVD #1 where John Perkins explains what he is doing and why. One of the most accessible ways to get the basic idea is to watch this section. Perkins uses limited methods that are not typical of GC practice.
Combat boxing against a grappler is the topic of the second DVD. There is a lot of information in this section. The explanations alone are good, clear and direct, but the experienced viewer who watches (and re-watches) this section with care will be rewarded with a lot of detailed understanding. On a side note, the ground fighting and slam bag DVD sets cover this topic in a complimentary way and are worth watching together. Not all of this can be used in MMA, but it is good for self defense.
There is an important gap and the section on entries fills it. You will find bits of information on entries in the book Attack Proof and other DVDs on GC, but this section brings together material in one place and covers it better.
If you already know GC, you will find that CCUE is well explained, a great alternative entry using answer the phone is presented, and several drills and variations on the practical applications of dropping to recover balance are presented.
A number of variations are presented, as well as a simple drill that you can use to recover stability after being knocked back.
I’ve only talked about a few of the sections in the set, but that should give you a good idea of what to expect.
The camerawork is amazing. In a seminar setting, the camera operator must have a deep understanding of how to get the camera at the right angle to see the important details. Under the more difficult conditions, they seem to have outdone their previous outstanding work.
I have come to expect a high level of editing from the GC DVDs. There are hours of pure content here.
The Attack Proof Companion Part One: Enhanced Close Combat for Self-defense and Street Survival (2 Disc Set), The Attack Proof Companion Part Two: Cultivating Internal Energy for Close Combat, Self-defense and Street Survival (2 disc set), and The Attack Proof Companion are different from their other main DVD
The Combat Boxing set is not as detailed in the beginning level explanation as Companion Parts 1 and 2, but it may be more clear for a boxer or MMA fighter or traditional hard style martial artist.
Compared to The Attack Proof Companion Part Three, which is the most comprehensive and my all time personal favorite martial arts DVD, it is not nearly as detailed and the content is more limited. There is a lot of material that is not found anywhere else.
The transition to open hands will be difficult if you are strongly trained in using your fists as a boxer, MMA fighter, etc., and it is best to build on what you are already good at. Combat Boxing might be a better starting point if this describes you.
I would start with Attack Proof 2nd Edition, The Attack Proof Companion Part One and The Attack Proof Companion Part Two, followed by The Attack Proof Companion Part Three and Combat Boxing, if you are coming to GC fresh or from a soft style.
