Although Robert Wilkins was born in a small town in northern Mississippi, he was still able to contribute to the story of the Blues. Between September 1928 and February 1930, Wilkins lived in Memphis and recorded 13 sides. New forms for his songs were often invented by him. Many of these have become landmarks in the story of the Country Blues.
Robert Wilkins had an unusual gift for varying the blues structure in interesting ways, and his playing and singing from his 1920s recordings show us that. His lyrics are both original and poetic. A sound that is unforgettable is the result of his guitar-playing and vocals.
There is a booklet with lyrics and transcriptions of the songs.
I Do Blues, Jailhouse Blues, Rolling Stone, Police Sergeant Blues, That’s No Way To Get Along and I’ll Go With Her are some of the titles.
