Union, to yolk is what yoga means. The eastern Club swinging and Hatha yoga systems are what inspired the Clubbell yoga practice. Many different people have different interpretations of yoga, and many yogis follow a specific path. We know that yoga can be a spiritual practice, a devotional practice, and a physical practice that leads to other intellectual studies. My yoga journey has taken me to some amazing places. I have practiced a lot of things. I have gone on retreats, fasted, cleansed, and done a vision quest, all of which are things that define the yoga community. I need my Clubbells to express my yoga at the end of the day. A practice of strength and intelligent movement is called Clubbell Yoga. It is open to interpretations that arise from reaching the flow state. It is based on precision, alignment and breath. The fusion of strength and yoga is empowering, graceful and challenging. Clubbells are a unique prop in that the majority of the weight is distributed above the handle, therefore when held upright it requires more muscle activation in the shoulder girdle muscles and core to keep it steady. It’s not the same as holding a small dumbbell, where the structure takes most of the weight. The Clubbell® becomes an extension of your arms and requires the inner and outer core muscles to hold it upright. The Clubbell® becomes a reminder to keep the core and arms engaged in yoga. The long shape of the Clubbell® makes it easy to integrate it into yoga poses where the arm serves as the long lever. Vinyasa yoga involves many transitions to get from one pose to the next. When incorporating the Clubbell® into vinyasa, the body becomes hyper aware of the arm holding the Clubbell® and must move through space in a safe and efficient way. The stabilizing muscles in the shoulder and core help the clubbell travel in all degrees of freedom. You will get a training response if you add a Clubbell to your yoga practice. Adding a small amount of resistance to your arm will make you stronger in your shoulders. The main weight bearing pose in a sun salutation is chaturanga. It may take a long time to get better at chaturanga if the main pose is the pose itself. Your chaturanga will improve faster if you strengthen your shoulder girdle muscles in other upright weight bearing poses. Every clubbell yoga class has sport specific movement training. If you are patient and practice, the Clubbell Yoga fusion will strengthen your yoga. It is an honor to teach and I hope you enjoy it so that you can bring it to other people in your life.
