Stone began working with his mother when he was 19 years old. He sold 48 policies per day when he was 19 years old. He sold more than 120 policies in one day, and had a nine-day average of 72 policies per day. He used a cold canvass system at the office buildings. We can’t imagine talking to that many people in a day. He might have made some sales of multiple policies for some families, but he must have seen a lot of people in a single day. He can run down the halls.

Stone focused on building his own sales force when he reached the 72 policy per day level. When the Great Depression hit, he devoted more of his attention to creating a sales training program to improve the effectiveness of his sales team. He created custom insurance policies that would be easy to sell.
