I used to be a heavy emotional eater. I would eat in response to my emotions. I would eat whenever I felt stressed, anxious, angry, tired, or bored. My eating was based on my emotions and fancies.

My emotional eating issues became very severe. My emotional eating behavior began when I was a child. In a high-context Asian culture, we don’t express our intents through words, but through actions and symbolism. They would buy food regardless of whether my brother and I were hungry. They would ask me if I was hungry. Do you want me to cook for you? When I already had my meal, do you need me to buy more food?

I grew up with a twisted relationship with food. I thought food was love. I would eat in response to stress, sadness, anger, and other negative emotions since eating was a way of expressing love to myself. . Eating gave me some relief. high All was well with the world.

This high did not last. It wouldn’t be long before I felt unhappy again, since my original problem wasn’t solved. I would feel worse this time because I had to now face the problem of having just overeaten, which jeopardizes my diet/weight loss plan. To the point where my stomach was really, I would eat even further, stuffing myself with food. It was hurt. . I would stop. I simply couldn’t do it anymore. . That was the extent of my stress eating.

I would be alone with a pile of food in my room at night.

Things changed after that. I swore to myself that I would resolve my eating issues once and for all.

One step at a time, I worked through my eating issues. I gained consciousness of my erratic behavior. I broke down my eating patterns to understand what triggered my eating disorders. I was able to break my emotional eating patterns.

It wasn’t easy. I failed many times. I end up bingeing at night when I start off on a good note.

The important thing is that I kept going. I never gave up. I would tackle my emotional eating behavior the next day. For weeks, months, even years, I did this day-in and day-out.

I have overcome my emotional eating problem. I no longer eat because of stress, anxiety, annoyance, anger, tiredness, or even peer pressure.
