Sam Fine launched his first instructional DVD with the help of his friends and clients at the Warren-Tricomi Salon at the Plaza. The event was attended by ESSENCE.com. There is a man who is empowering women of color through makeup artistry.

Basics of Beauty is the title of your DVD. What is your definition of beauty?

Sam fine. The ABC’s of beauty are simple: groomed eyebrows/removing any unwanted facial hair, foundation or powder to perfect the canvas, bronzer to add luminosity, mascara to bring definition to the eyes and lip liner and

Adding a supple texture and color to the lips is possible with lipstick or gloss. The basics of a simple, glamorous look can be found in these products.

When it comes to enhancing one’s own natural beauty, what three things should every woman strive to achieve?

It’s fine. Women should strive to achieve three important things.

A groomed brow not only opens and lifts the eye, it clears the way for any eye shadow application to follow.

Choosing a foundation to suit your needs helps to unify different tones. powder is a must if you don’t use foundation. The pressed or loose powder will make the complexion appear more consistent in color and texture.

The creation of a flawless canvas is very different than a glowing complexion. To add warmth and richness to the complexion, use a dusting of bronzer on the outer perimeter of the face. Simply apply a peach shade of blush to your cheeks after applying your makeup.

What do you think women will gain from watching your DVD?

It’s fine. I hope women gain a better understanding of makeup and how to use it. I hope that it will change the perception that makeup makes you look fake. The techniques I demonstrate in the DVD help to create a beautiful, natural look.

The DVD gives step by step tips on makeup application. What makeup tools should be in a woman’s bag to help with the application process?

It’s fine. What tools you need will be determined by the products you use.

Tweezers are important to own, whether you are grooming your own brows or removing a few stray hairs between visits to your beauty professional.

Don’t be afraid to use your fingers, especially in those hard-to-reach areas such as underneath eyes and around the nose, because latex sponges or synthetic hair foundation brushes help foundation glide across the skin.

Use a large powder brush to apply loose or pressed powder.

You don’t want to mix the two, so you’ll need a separate brush from your loose powder brush.

Use a blush brush instead of the tiny blush brushes that come with the product. A blush brush is a smaller version of the large powder brush. You won’t have a streaky application of color on cheeks if you use this small fluffy brush.

I know it is easier to apply lipstick from the tube, but a lip brush is needed to achieve flawless coverage.

The DVD encourages women who feel they don’t have the time or know-how to properly apply makeup to want to experiment with their own beauty.

It’s fine. Writing about makeup, products and proper application is one thing, but watching it being applied step-by-step is another. To understand how a well-defined brow opens and lifts the eye, and to grasp why lip liner and lipstick blend to make an effortless-looking, sexy lip, is what the DVD encourages women to understand. The DVD makes you want to pick up a product and play with it.
