The presentation will offer an approach to stabilization for clients with dissociation. Since childhood abuse and neglect interfere with normal development, clients are not able to integrate traumatic memories. They suffer from flashbacks, intrusions from, or switch to, child parts that are overwhelmed and not oriented to the present, have serious unresolved inner conflicts, and struggle with daily life. When early treatment focuses on supporting the client to overcome their deficits, it is most effective. Many models for treating trauma do not address the underlying problem of the client’s inner experience. Over the course of 30 years of experience, I have found many therapeutic approaches helpful in stabilizing dissociative clients. I use a wide variety of techniques. A video of a session with a client withDDNOS will show a demonstration of some of these techniques.
