He graduated from Oklahoma State University with an undergraduate degree in physiology and a master’s degree in zoology. He received a PhD in biomedical science and a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the OSU Center for Health Sciences. He is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine. He transitioned from a forensic scientist to a family medicine physician after working for the FBI and New Mexico State Police. A&E aired one of his cases in 2005. He is currently the Chair of Primary Care on the Joplin campus of KCU, having practiced as a rural family medicine physician in Missouri. Dr Paulson is the President of the Missouri Academy of Family Physicians and the Vice President of the Community Clinic Board of Directors.
